Hey everyone!
Got the news that a last minute pig hunt up North by Ventura is a go this weekend. I've only ever been bow hunting for deer and always opted for the traditional broadheads because I wasn't entirely sold on the mechanicals. I have both Montec G5s and Muzzy Trocars at my disposal, I prefer the Muzzys because the blades are sharper imo. I also have some 3 bladed mechanicals on hand. I'm shooting a PSE Vendetta @ 65lbs which will smack a pig if I get lucky enough to let an arrow go. So what's the general consensus? Stick with the traditional or opt for the new tech? Are there advantages over one or the other?
Thanks

Forgot to mention all the broadheads are 100g. I haven't made the switch to 125g heads yet. The arrows are all the same Easton Axis 340 5mms.

Either the Montecs or the Muzzys will work well. I do not use mechanicals on pigs, but that is just a personal preference

I have shot a lot of the popular blades fixed and mechanical over the last 25 years and finally decide to just stick with fixed blades for big game animals, I am personally tired of messing with mech blades and they really take big chunks out of broadhead targets too. Less to worry about if something goes wrong with a mech. I would prefer the muzzy over the montec g5. The super sharp muzzy is important because if u get lucky enough to get a shot on a 350+ bad azz rhino Razorback boar with massive arrow reflecting shoulder shields a solid fixed head blade would be the more common sense way to go, u want a head with great penetration and hopefully a fatal bleed out wound. If a wild pig has real thick hair a lot of times the blood will just clogs up the wound then u r left with no blood trail to follow and the pig will die off in some poison oak bushes more then likely.....lol
Good luck on your pig hunting adventure and look forward to a hunt report and pics if possible.....tra

Muzzy all day long! I’ve killed everything with a 90 grain muzzy four blade, but any Muzzy is better than anything out there. I’ve tried mechanicals but they are garbage, too much can go wrong and way too expensive. If you want confidence then use a Muzzy. I hope that you have time to tune whatever broadhead you so choose before your hunt. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter what broadhead you are using because it may not be at all on target. Good luck and we all hope you get one!!

I agree. My buddies and I have had a hard time with penetration using grim reapers on big boar hogs. Great mechanical BH, but require too much energy to deploy on tough skinned muscular animals. They’ve gone to the new rage, I went to 2-blade fixed.

2 blade fixed is 1000% the way to go, the cool thing about the Muzzy four blade is that when your feeling a little saucy, just pull out two of the four blades and it’s a 2 blade fixed. Those Muzzys have no problem punching through the thickest of armor plates on the largest of hogs. I only shoot about 52# and I have zero issues with penetration.

I shoot some cheap knock off Muzzys that are on Amazon like 6 for 19.99 they sometimes break on the exit if they hit a rock, but I’ve killed a few pigs with them.
