I'd have to say in Arizona or Utah. Something about them beautiful canyons and all the red rock and blue sky with the golden hour touch of light. I'd say the evening was the best for me there.

One of the best times was late one evening on the north rim of the Grand Canyon at Parissawampitts Point. It was cloudy and about to rain and the sun popped out and it was surreal. I grabbed all the gear and started to set up my cameras. Bang when the lightning real close and I'm standing there with a tripod in my hand trying to decide what to do. One more strike and I gave up and just hunkered down under a Juniper to watch the show. It was awesome.

Where would you say you've seen and photographed the best golden hours? Morning or sunset?

shooting during the golden hour can be unbelievable. you can definitely add shock and awe to a scene if you can shoot with that magical golden light. officially it is described as the hour before sunrise and the hour after sun down. But I have seen some great light during the moments after sunrise and the moments before sundown. I have had quite a few good golden photos prior to sunrise.. not so many after sunset though. color just seemed to evaporate the times I have tried shooting a sunset.

Here are a couple of golden hour favorites.
far from being "golden", but the color saturation was amazing. captured about 45 minutes before the sun broke the horizon. (4 second exposure)

here the sun has already risen, but the coloration is still powerful

here is an online calculator to find out when and where the "golden hour" will be depending on your location.

I know I've posted this pic before, but I really like it.
It was a sunset at South Mission Beach in San Diego, CA. One of those times you are thankful for some clouds!

Still trying to get the illusive sunrise glow!!

I'd have to say sunsets have afforded me the most memorable "golden hours" because of the way my house is situated. This picture was taken by my son from my backyard. A spectacular sunset and even more memorable because it was THE LAST sunset of the millenium on December 31, 1999. We were watching all the celebrations on TV as the new millenium arrived in Paris and London, and there were some great fireworks displays. Around that time the sun started to set and God trumped them all with this brief, but brilliant display.

It is not the best shot I have taken of the sun sets in Canada - Lake of the Woods; but this is the view we had as we pulled the plug on our October/November fishing trip... a frosty ride in to the landing

one from a Crappie hole we hit before making the last few miles run to the landing...

Its a tough place to leave knowing work awaits you when you get back to the States...

forgot to mention this earlier, but that is a sweet shot from the boat cavey. Worthy of the wall IMO.

Bob, it looks like you have some prime sunset real estate there in AZ!

Here is a picture I took the other day in Oregon waiting to pick a hunting partner up from his spot. I had to pull over and snap one off. Enjoy..

Here is another.
It was very neat seeing the fog or haze fill between the layers of ridges.
I was touched.

This picture doesn't even compare to the pics you guys have posted but I thought I'd put it up anyway. I snapped this photo after target practice on Saturday.
