I have been trying forever to catch a hog in my spiffy new hog trap I made. The hogs here seem to be trap smart. I have tried Hog Wild and sour grain, but no good. Coons eat plain corn up in one night. I was wondering if hogs eat acorns. They are starting to fall now and I could collect some. Do coons eat acorns?.....................Dufus

We have tried all the stuff that you can buy from a store that is suppose to lure in the hogs, but hardly ever catch anything with it. What we do is soak some corn in diesel for a few days and then drain the diesel off and bait our traps with the diesel soaked corn. This will help to keep the coons and deer out of the trap as well.

I am not an expert but there are a few things thatI would do. I would bait the trap like you are doing but don,t set the trap door for a few days.Put it close to a trail you know the hog is passes by.Use rubber gloves and boots when ever messing around trap. Bait with corn going from trail to trap and into trap. Make a good hog rub with clay mud on trap . After a few days set trap and also try some hog in heat inside of trap .

5 gallon bucket 3/4 full of corn
2 or 3 stale beers (or equivalent backwash from case of empties)
1/2 gallon regular milk
Half bag brown sugar or jar of molasses
Fill to 1or 2 inches from top with water
Stir

Cover, let it sit in the sun a week or until it stinks!
Release gases every day
Add water as it soaks into the corn and stir

Day before using mix in 1 cup diesel. Doesn't bother the pigs and keeps the critters away.

Pigs love it!

huh. first time I heard of diesel in the corn was this year now I see it written everywhere.

we pretty much just put a beer in a couple pounds of corn and a gallon of water, let it ferment til it gags you and then bait the trap. done.
