Had nothing better to do on July 4th and i decided to call Deedy at BHR. Sorry no cabins avaiable. Bummer. Then i get a call back and there is one cabin open. Sweet. Arrived at BHR on friday morning. Deedy asked if we wanted to hunt. Why not, good thing i had brought my guns. Wanted to try out my new shotgun and my new .308. Deedy set me and my bro up in the barley field. Got set up around 5 pm. Waited and waited and nothing. IN the mean time we were laughing and making jokes. Soon it was time to head back. Saturday morning 0445 in the field again. We were walking the dirt road and heard some crunching sounds. Not sure what it was we continued our way up the hill. Soon as we crested we made out a shadow 70 yards away. We soon discovered what was making the crunching noise. It was a good size boar feeding in the barley field. I set up for a shot, looked at my watch its 0520. I placed my crosshairs on the pigs head and waited. Still was not comfortable with the natural lighting. Decided to wait. I followed the pig for another 60 yards and the pig dissapeared in the tall brush. I was bummed out. I had the shot and i didnt take it. But i think i did the right thing because i wasnt comfortable with the amount of shooting light. After that the sun got up and things started to heat up and we decided to head back. As we were walking back, caught some movement on the corner of my eye. Turned around and saw a group of hogs slowly going up the hill 400 yards away, across the fence, in the forbidden ground. Put up the binos and saw a huge spotted boar. They went into the distance and we went back to the resort. Saturday night headed to the field again, nothing. As we were headed back, saw a shadow in the middle of the field. A big black boar feeding. Got my gun up, its too dark. Again was not comfortable with the light and decided to pass that chance. We were getting nervous. Sunday was our last day at the resort. Alarm went off at 0400 sunday morning. We got to the field at 0430. Checked the wind and set up a game plan to go in the field from a different location and on foot. Parked the car next to the road and slowly started the hike in. Not 50 yards in the field heard some crunching noise. Now we knew who was making that noise. Its 0445 its dark and the only thing we see are the eyes of a group of hogs around us in a feeding frenzy. The hair on my neck stood up, not sure what to do. We decided to knee down. There were shadows running all around us, grunts, fights, and all sorts of noises. Now we were getting nervous. Looked up and see lighting around the horizon. The pigs eventually moved off and the sun was peeking behind the mountain. Followed the pig tracks and they led to a fenceline into forbidden ground. Bummer, we decided to sit under a tree and think about what happened. As i was thinking i saw 2 pigs, 300 yards away. One was black and the other was spotted. They both looked big. But i have my shot gun with me and the range on that was 150 yards max. What should i do, should i go back to my car and get the .308 or sprint across the field and close the distance fast. I started sprinting, it was now or never and i wasnt going to let them get away. At the same time my brother was looking in the opposite direction and when he turned around i was already half way there. My heart is beating at max and i stopped to catch my breath.

Story continues....
When i stopped the spotted pig saw me and stopped and was looking at my direction. I was 150 yards away. With all the shaking i was doing i decided to get a little closer. Started running and stopped about 80 yards away. The pig saw me and started to walk away slowly. I placed the crosshairs on his shoulder and held my breath and squezzed the trigger. Boom! Pumped my gun and looked at the pig. The pig started making circles. I knew he was hit. He started limping and started running down the side of the hill towards some brush piles. Aimed again, broadside, Boom!. The pig fell in the middle of the brush pile. Pumped my gun again. And started to close the distance. The pig got up again, broadside,Boom!. The pig fell. By that time my brother walked to where that action was. We saw the pig and decided it was dead and went to get the car. We arrived to the location and parked our car got the .308 just in case and walked to retrieve our trophy. We heard rustling in the brush and looked over, the pig was standing and started to run. We started to run besides him and stopped to take a shot. All of a sudden the pig changed direction and started top run toward us on full power. Oh S***. GOt down to one knee. The boar was 8ft away and closing the distance fast. No time to aim and pointed the gun to his direction. 6 ft away. Boom! The shot connected between his eyes, little lower toward his snout. The pig went down 3ft in front of me and my butt connected with the ground. The pig started rustling and got up on his hind legs. My brother's yelling at me, " get up, get up, shoot again." I got up and pointed the gun at its head and shot two more times and the big boar expired. Adrenalin pumping, did not know what to make out of the situation. Sat down next to the boar and started to examine my shots. All of the shotgun slugs were connected. One head shot with the .308 and two shots in the mouth. Lower cutters were broken off and could see a hole down the pigs mouth. Im telling you guys, those copper bullets dont work for me.

Forgot to mention. The Boar weighed 280 lbs with 3+ cutters. One of the cutters was shattered the other was retrieved and on its way to the taxidermy. Deedy thanks a bunch for this adventure. Soon as the weather cools down, i will give you a buzz.
