Been looking at the spotting scopes on sale at Big 5. One is a winchester the other is a barska. Both run about $90.00. Anyone have any experiance with either of these. Im sure they arn't the best of quality but do they have any practical use in the field? Any input would be appreciated.

Find a Burris Landmark spotting scope on sale in the $160 range or so--it's much more bang for the buck. You'll be forever disappointed in those that you are looking at now.
I went the cheap route when living in WA state back in '97 and bought Tasco spotting scope for $90. I had a pair of 7x binos that I could see more details with than that spotting scope. The guys at Vancouver rifle's (rifle range) suggested the Burris...so, I got my money back and bought a Burris from Midway USA...it's a good value for an entry-level spotter.

I bought the winchester scope and it seems to be pretty good for glassing deer.
I got the Barska as a present. It comes with a small tripod, hard case and soft case. I wouldn't take it to the field but I do leave it in my truck for impromptu trips to the public range. They only have a cease fire every 45 minutes or so. A cheapy scope works just fine for reading 100 yard targets and if you knock it off the bench or the dog chews it you will not be bankrupt. Its not a Kowa and certainly not a Zeiss but it has a niche.
