Got up to the ranch around sunrise this morning and started walking a ridge looking into the valleys on both sides. No more than 15 minutes into the hunt and after watching a bunch of toms strutting, I saw a big black thing that was way too big to be a turkey. Sure enough, a big solitary boar head down grazing in the grass. I dropped down the ridge and across the valley to a small rise that overlooked where he was - he hadn't moved and was broadside to me 100 yards out. Easy shot with my 270, dropped like a rock. Bullet went thru the shield on one side, thru the lungs, and embedded in the rib cage of the other side. I could barely see the entrance wound as the shield pretty much sealed up after it went thru - no wonder it's so hard to find a blood trail on some of these tanks!

A hefty 250 lb-er, decent cutters, no smell. I kept the hams, tenderloins, and loins and gave the rest to our gardener.
