I don't have to much info.
Was driving through Bishop about 5:30 yesterday morning and could see the fire.
It was small at that time, saw plenty of fire crews out on the road home yesterday but nothing in the air yet.
Have not heard any more info since then.
Hope they get it out quick.
Lots of thunder and lighting up on the mountain over the weekend.
Had several lightning strikes in the area this weekend which started some small fires. Saturday afternoon, we saw a hit in the Glass Mts. The smoke indicated a good blaze, but the rain put it out within a couple of hours. The biggest fire was in the Bishop Creek area which was located by the new Forks Campground. There was no smoke this morning so I believe it has been put out.
I was camping along Bishop Creek at the Bishop Park campground the day the fire started. We got the Mandatory Evac from the police and packed out quick on Saturday. Upon coming down the hill the whole mountain to the left of the 168 coming down the mountain near the Forks area was on fire. Pretty intense as fire was on the road on both sides as we were escorted down the mountain. Didnt see any deer while we were there for the day and a half but that could be due to the 2900 lightning strikes we got on Saturday. From there we went and stayed in town in Mammoth and got about 10 feet from a nice sized bear. Next we Headed up to the Minaret falls campground past Mammoth which is I believe the X-9A area or near it and saw 5 does and one spike near our campground. Oh yeah, the fishing was killer. 100 trout in 3 days.
I Fished bishop creek along the campgrounds for a nice mix of Rainbows and Browns. I also fished at Weir Pond and caught a couple nicer rainbows. Lastly, I fished North and South lake. North Lake was loaded with fish but also mosquitos. South lake was a slow pick of Rainbows with powerbait and a couple splitshots. Besides South Lake I fished a gold Panther Martin size 2 or 4 the entire trip and pitched it under bushes and pools and caught all I could ask for. Hope this helps.
