It's pretty nasty up there right now......looks like snows down below 1000 feet....well below where you will be hunting......I wouldn't recomend going up there unless you have a good 4 wheel drive, winch (or at least a comealong and chains) and high lift jack.....along with warm clothes and a good cell phone........don't get me wrong .....I've hunted up there in the snow and it's a blast...but can get hairy at times........anywho heres a pic I just took of condon peak (well actually you can't even see condon as the clouds are so low).......good luck this weekend.

I'll just second the warning about the higher roads in the Clear Creek area. It was snowing like hell over near Hollister (Chopper's place) a little while ago, and that makes those roads really bad.

The higher roads are probably closed off now anyway due to the conditions, but I have been up there when someone didn't close the gate... and it got REAL hairy.

snows melting......which unfortunately means mud......Fort Hunter Liggets open this weekend if your still looking for a hunt......and I believe you can still get weekend pass....you might check with others here who hunt there just to be sure......and jesse posted the area's open........I see your a bow hunter so area 29 would be a good area to go to........if you've never been there they have a camping area and you just may meet some of the JHO folks there.........I believe it's about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Lemoore....

Hey Man, My buddy went to Camp Legget two weekends ago. Their group got one, not a very healthy one though. But In order to get in to CHL you have to send in their application form. I almost did it for the weekend but decided not too....needed hunting stuff! If there's no grass, play in the mud! I am still heading out. See ya soon...Mike

blacknight,
Pay attention to the posts about road warnings. They should be heeded, as AAA will not leave the pavement to tow...
It is raining like crazy right now and there is a forcast for snow down to 3000 ft. for friday night.
Good luck and post your hunt results...

You know it's bad when you call the guy with the gnarly 4wd to get you out and HE'S stuck too.

Cottonwood Creek west of Los Banos is strickly walk-in. So your vehicle won't get stuck; but it is a long couple of up-hill miles from the blacktop to the ponds.

Arghhhh the navy got the best of me this weekend! I got called in for weekend duty! So i never even got out there... I did however, shoot my bow for ghits and siggles.. I need to get rid of my pendulum sight and need to get some kind of better field sights...any types recommended??? Sorry BirdDawg! wish i could of made it out there, had to host another squadron leaving on deployment. Hope all went good for you all out there and i did write down the 3 different ways to get in to that area. Mike
