go to http://www.blm.gov, click on directories, click on california, then pick whatever city is closest to you.  you might try to go to the blm office in kern county, I know the one in palmsprings carries all the maps for my area.  they cost 5 or 6 dollars.  someone else might know a better way.

The BLM has a published series of maps called Surface Management Maps that show land classification and agency jurisdiction (USFS, BLM, private, State). Some are very recent and up-to-date. Others are out-of-date. Check with the local BLM for current land status to be sure.

You can order the BLM Surface Management Maps through this linkhttp://store.ca.blm.gov/webc/webc.cgi/st_m...8ZkLDL0Vm0KPDAu

Or you can contact your local BLM office at this linkhttp://www.ca.blm.gov

The newer Surface Management Maps are plotted on the USGS 1:100000 scale topo maps. Some of the older maps do not have the tope base.

If you want the 7.5' topographic quads, call 1-888-ASK-USGS and ask for a California index map. Maps are $4 each and there is a $5 handling fee per order.

Bajabug,

Welcome to JHP neighbor! You're not too far from me.

If you go to the BLM website, you can purchase the maps from them online as well.
