Hello All,

Has anyone out there been boar hunting in the Nantahala National Forest in Western North Carolina? If so, could you give me some assistance in finding where to go hunt this fall. I am trying to get some information about the area and methods that are used to locate and hunt the boars. I do not have dogs, so I thought it would be best to go ahead and do some scouting.

I appreciate any help that you could give me.

Thanks Everybody!

Hey Turtle,

I looked for boars every year when I deer hunted around Lake Nantahala up there, but never even saw any rooting. They're supposed to be thick in the area, though, so go figure? It's been a while since I hunted there (I moved to CA six years ago), but on my last trip the lake was pretty built up with vacation homes almost all the way around. Dunno what the hunting is like now. There's tons of turkeys, some good deer, and a bunch of bear in the area, though.

They have supposedly been having some trouble with hogs along the Appalachian Trail in that area. You might contact the NPS to see if there's a particular trouble-spot.

By the way, most of the boar hunters I talked to up there mostly hunt with hounds. If you look around, I'm sure there's a guide or two who can take you into a quality area.

Good luck!
