Curious if this might work. I shoot Axis N-Fused 340s (10.3gpi) and Montec 100gr broadheads which bring my total arrow weight to 440gr. This sounds too light for a bull bison. Has anyone tried inserting the 3 Rivers tubes in their arrows to add weight? Seems like adding 8gpi tubes and topping it with a 150gr Woodsman Elite broadhead I would have an estimated weight around 725gr and offset any spine/FOC issues. I think this should be able to bust thru bone if need be. It won't be fast with a 27" DL and 65lb DW but I think it'll do the job if I can get close enough (20-30 yards). Any obvious flaws to my plan?

Are you shooting a trad bow?
If so, you may want to consider the Ashby Reports. He studied arrow and broadhead performance on heavy boned large big game, which a bison certainly is. Let me know if you need a link to the information.

No...I'm using a Carbon Element with a 27" DL and 65lb DW. Will probably be around 200-225fps...faster than trad.

You're only about 25-35fps faster than some of the high end trad bows.
Still, I don't think the Ashby information applies that well to wheels as he specifically tested trad gear.

My 440gr arrows chrono at 250 fps. Short DL but it'll do right?

I prefer a narrower diameter arrow, I find I get better penetration with them...at least, I do on my Rhinehart. They get 3"-4" deeper into the target. I think they are less affected by wind too.

Only thing I would change would be the broadhead if your concerned about penetration. Use your weight tubes and top it with a 150 gr VPA 2 blade.

My experiences with solid VPAs were sad...only time I ever missed my target completely. After more research I decided to get the dangerous game FMJ 250s with 50 gr inserts. Go big or go home.

The Indians used a stick with a stone point on the end, propelled by a bow with a 30lb draw weight. What are you worried about.
