Unfortunately, most of calif is anti bowfishing, and getting info on legal places to bowfish is like pulling teeth. This link will help http://www.fgc.ca.gov/html/fishregs.html. Big Bear Lake is a good choice for so cal, the Colorado River and canal systems are also an option. I believe the northern part of the state has tons of good bowfishing waters, clear lake and the delta are ones that I plan to try before the summers over.
There are carp in almost all the reservoirs but not all are open to bow fishing. Just pick a body of water and start asking questions. I have shot a few places in the north but the Delta and Clearlake are best bets for good shooting all summer. If you hit the reservoirs during a spawn they can be pretty darn good. For instance my partner and I shot around 2000lbs out of little New Hogan one day.
I here rumors that they are going to try and bring back a trny to the Delta next year. That would be great I need the money.
Also there is the Clear Lake trny the biggest and the Big bear trny. If your into competition.
Just remember to have fun and shoot all that you can.
Carpholeo, If you come up to the Delta shoot me an e-mail.
