Well it looks like I will have the chance to bowhunt in Africa this year when I go. Anyone that has done this, any recommendations on a good traveling bow case? We will be setting up our flights through Gracy Travel in San Antonio Texas.

The areas that we are going to be hunting are Bosmanrus and Hoedspruit and we will be using Bloubank Bowhunting Safari's which is based out of Hoedspruit area, in the Limpopo Lowveld. We can use rifles some as well, so not everything will be taken by bow. I will be taking my CZ .375 H&H as the main hunting tool. My buddy doesnt bow hunt so he will take 2 rifles.

We will also be spending three days in Kruger National Park at Mopani camp.

Looks like we will be heading out July 12th. I am super excited about this trip!

I've been using a case made by ICC ( Impact case company) do a web search.

Both my rifle and bow case are made by these guys. Affordable, and nearly bullet proof construction. Both my cases have been back anc forth several times a year for more then 15 years without so much as a single click of scope adjustmtent.

What ever you choose make sure it has seperate pad locks that can be cut off without damage to the case itself. TSA can cut the locks to get inside, you sure don't want them to ruin the case to open the locks. It's happened to my case twice now. Once arriving in Atlanta and once in Houston.

SKB has new cases coming out that come with TSA locks on them so you don't have to wait at the screen both with your key while they look at your case. Saves time if they need to open the case for more viewing if they have their own key for the TSA locks. I believe the rep said the cases will be out sometime this spring. Not sure when you're going Bigswad. I have a SKB double rifle/bow case and love it. Just one little dent in the metal band from about 5 years of banging around airports.

We've got the SKB cases in the store here. Watch the sales and you can get one for a really good price.

Thanks Jesse. We will be flying out on 7/11/07. We just officially set the dates this past week. I saw those yesterday and really liked the rifle/bow combo case. I was searching yesterday based on sdhntr and JJ's post and saw those SKBs. I couldnt find the ones that JJ was talking about, the company is still there but it doesnt look like they still build the gun or bow cases anymore.

Also Jesse, how many arrows can you fit in that thing? Also, how much seperation is there between the bow and rifle? And last but not least, if you hear of a date when the new cases come out with the TSA locks, let me know or when you will have them for sale. I wouldnt mind buying them from the JHO store. But if I do, what would a rough shipping estimate to TX be?

Thanks again fellas for all the information.

Bigswad, I took the padded liner out since I fly with 2 bows or a rifle and bow sometimes. If you use the liner there's plenty of room above and below the liner for a bow and rifle and other small items. I bought a compact arrow case to put my dozen arrows in to keep them safe in the case. I then put clothes in around the rifle or bows as padding since the airlines have gotten stiff on charging for overweight bags. I get my 50 lbs limit out of my gun case instead of putting the clothes in other bags.

The cases are heavy, 25-30 lbs so the shipping charge is high compared to say a jacket. It'd be about $22 to ship an SKB to Texas.

Thanks Jesse. I never thought about using clothes as much to distribute the weight better to reduce the airlinie charges. I am debating about doing a seperate container for the arrows anyway to put in my bag.

The shipping charges I have seen end up going near $50, so your estimate seems a little more reasonable.
