I was up there a few months. IMO I dont care for burro canyon. I like Fish Canyon A LOT better. A little more safe and the layout is a lot nicer. I'm not saying I wouldnt shoot there, just if I'm gonna make the drive I would rather go to Fish Canyon.

I agree with HogHunter...Fish Canyon is a lot better and safer as far as ranges go...but sometimes when you don't want to be so closely managed...Burro Canyon is better!

Here are the directions to Fish Canyon from Diamond Bar....

57 North to the 210 Fwy
Take the I-210 W ramp to Pasadena - go 6.5 mi
Take the Irwindale Ave exit to Irwindale - go 0.3 mi
Turn right at N Irwindale Ave - go 0.2 mi
Turn left at E Foothill Blvd - go 0.4 mi
Continue on Huntington Dr - go 0.4 mi
Turn right at Encanto Pky - go 1.8 mi

CDH,
Is Burro Canyon Shooting Range a rapid fire allowed range???? Why would it be less safer than Fish Canyon S.R.???? Isn't Fish Canyon S.R. about to be closed by the city of Monrovia??? in a few years????
<

P.S. I have never been to Burro Canyon S.R. or to the Fish Canyon S.R., only to the Angeles Shooting Ranges(no rapid fire) & to the Lytle Creek S.R.(rapid fire OK)

Burro Canyon Shooting Range is less structured with line breaks and the faculties. Fish Canyon is much more structured. If you were to go on a crowded day I would much rather go to Fish Canyon. Fish Canyon will check if you are using FMJ rounds (not allowed) for the SKS. Last time I shot at Burro Canyon there was only myself and another guy on the small bore range. We decided when we wanted a line break. If you were there on a slow day you could get away with pulling that trigger quickly.

The city of Azusa is in the process of trying to close the Fish Canyon (San Gabriel gun club) range. My neighbor who is a member said it would close at the earliest in 18 months depending on the court fights. Azusa is also trying to close the gravel company next door.

If you want do do precision target shooting.

As in slow take your time shooting the Fish Canyon yes. Shooting a SKS in Fish canyon i sno big deal anymore as most of the Wolfd ammo is now capper jacketed now, unless you found a big stash of the old steel jacketed stuff.
I do prefer Burro Canyon though as you can shoot bowing pins and shot gun clays. And you can rapid fire.

But you do get alot of A-holes there too.

FMJ does not mean steel jacket. .223 is also FMJ and its copper. What they didn't allow was "steel" jacketed ammo. So if you had a SKS they would check your ammo. Cuz before if you bought 7.62X39 ammo you got WOLF. ANd back then it was Steel jacketed. Now most of the new WOLF 7.62x39 ammo if copper jacketed. Basically they put a magnet on the bullet and if it sticks it steel jacketed and is not allowed. Fire hazard, it will spark if it hits a rock I guess.
