My girlfriend has decided to get me a new pair of Binocs, but i'm not sure which to get. I looked at the Bushnell legend, Browning and Leupolds. I like the Legends and Browning, but i'm undecided on which to get.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

A girlfriend that buys hunting gear, sounds like a keeper

If you're looking at the Roof Prism version of the Legends, you should take a look at the Nikon Monarch ATB Binoculars, they are great.

Bushnell Optics makes Browning personally I'd go with Leupold for scopes, since I'm not into high dollar binocs really good reasonable models are made by Pentax.I have friends with them who swear by them, available for spotting deer use 10x50's and up mounted on a tripod I purchased Duwane Adams' DVD 'How to Glass for Trophy Animals' http://www.arizonabiggamehunting.com at his deer seminars he suggested buying Pentax Binocs good quality.

I havn't looked at the Nikon, but will before I decide to buy. Swarovski are way too high, and I don't see much difference, if any, to justify $1,300. I like the way the Brownings fit.

Thanks,

Hey Mel,

I just got a pair of the Nikon Monarch ATB 10x42's and they are great glass for the money (about $250 off of eBay for the camo version). I'm of the opinion that once you get above $250 to $350 for glass there are diminishing returns for every extra dollar spent. Yeah, the Swaros are of a much higher optical quality than my Nikons (or equivalent), but the difference in quality is a lot less than the difference between $75 binos (i.e. crap) vs $300 binos. Having compared the Nikons (BDB's) and the Swaros (intoblacktail's) last year in A-20 under actual hunting conditions, there is a difference but to me it isn't worth an extra $1200, and it surely isn't going to change the outcome of any of my hunts.

In other news... I saw your pic of your 2004 muley buck, AGAIN, this time in California Fish & Game magazine. I'm awed every time I see that buck, but you need to start letting go... Justin is going to nail a bigger one this year!

Thanks for your input guys. I ended up finding a great deal (atleast I think) off of Ebay, got the Bushnell Legends in 10X42 with Mossy Oak Camo for $186 brand new. The cheapest I've found them elsewhere was $295, they go for $339 in Cabelas, so I couldn't pass these up.

Yeah, I seen the little article in the magazine too. I'm taking Justin to the exact spot where I shot mine. I have a couple of canyons picked out that we didn't try last year, i'm sure he'll end up with a good one out of one of them.
