button bucks

Dose anyone know if button buck shead their buttons during the sheading time?

Yeah, they will.  Next year he will be a larger spike, fork horn or even a small three point, depending on the vegetation.......those new antlers will have to come in with velvet so the old "buttons" will have had to have been shed.

He could be bigger than that.  I have seen where a deer went from spike one year to an 11 pt the next, pen raised deer, so good food. Also had spikes about 8" long, which I think again was due to good food.

I have seen many 8 and 10 point whitetails in KY that are 1.5 years old.
Buttons are shed but may just fall off like a scab as the new antlers start in spring.
