Buying a digital camera

My wife and I going to buy a digital camera and need some help.We are willing to spend up to about $800 or $900.Been looking at the Sonys.What do you guys think?This will be the first one we own.

I could only give you my personal review of the camera I purchased....Olympus C-3000Z.  I am extremely happy with the camera and it's options.  It's easy to use in the auto mode and offers many manual mode features for someone with a little more experience.  With accessories, you can probably pick one up for around $650 or so (batteries, case, 64MB card, etc.)

http://www.cnet.com also has some great info in it's digital camera section. Sony DSC 707 seems to be getting the nod for pic quality in the 5 megapixel catagory, and as usual, Nikon has the nod in features/composition for the Coolpix 5000.
