a word of warning and caution: I was on-base Vandenberg yesterday.... and got a traffic ticket.

"Failure To Use Turn Signal" .... $60 is the extortion.

The uniformed Staff SGT who gave me the ticket said he was, and I quote, "obligated" to give the ticket because the law was broken. I told him I was outraged that he would "blindly follow such orders" and prey on his military brothers and sisters in such a despicable fashion, showing such utter contempt and lack of consideration and respect for those who serve their country.

Just an hour ago I chatted with an active duty pal at Minot AFB, he says the troopers up there are also harassed endlessly with such chickenshit.

I don't know if such outright terrorism is unique to AFB's, but as a retired military officer I am outraged that our troopers would be subjected to such incredible pettiness.

Those of you who visit/hunt VAFB.... beware. You are not respected for your military service.

AFB's are very bad for that. Vandenberg will also suspend your hunting privileges for 30 days at a time in a heartbeat too if they think you did anything wrong. Obey those speed limit signs also. They have absolutely nothing else to do there but write tickets.

Which reminds me, if you don't turn in your Form 216 after it expires, they will suspend you quite matter of factly. You play their game or you don't play at all. It doesn't stop when you retire. At least he didn't tell you to get a heircut and shine your shoes! He probably thinks that you don't need to come on base anymore anyway.
Not too many people really care that much for military veterns is my experience. Pig hunting is about all that matters to me sometimes, so I can understand the tunnel vision.
How do you get to Vberg so often? Do you live nearby? I'm about 500 miles away, but it seems to be the best hunting option available to me these days. I'm headed down there next Friday.

Why don't you just obey the traffic laws and quit crying about not getting special treatment. You sound like the proverbial cop who steals apples with a smile.

If any of you have ever drove on Vandenberg, which I doubt after looking at your profiles because you're not active duty or retired military, you'd know that if you even see a car, you wave because they're so few and far in between. Keep your peanut gallery comments to yourselves. The military, active, reserve, and retired, is a clan that apparently you don't belong to. It ain't like you're EVER gonna get on VAFB to hunt anyway. Go to FHL or Camp Roberts, while you can.

After oh about 10 tickets on army posts and Air Force bases and having to stand tall before the man, or woman in my case, I cooled it. Them SPs have nothing else to do and they're just looking for some action.

If the sign says 15 you'd better do 15.

The rules are set. The consequences have been established. People are hired for the purpose of enforceing the rule.
If benefits of a military brotherhood meant that members would be exempt from some of the rules, the exemption would have been established when the rules were set.
If you ignore the rule, don't cry about the consequences, afterall, it was your choice to do so.
If the rule is intentionally not enforced, the person hired to enforce it doesn't deserve to have the job, afterall, that is what he is paid to do.

I think this is a moral principle that is valid for all other brotherhoods, including police, fire or politics.

(sacrilege) OK, all you who believe in special favors and unwritten rules, can let me have it now.

Military base or public street, the laws are set up for a reason. Do I feel that a few police officers sit and wait to write that next ticket? "Absolutely". The guys who work the traffic detail write tickets all day long. Seen it first hand while working for a local orange county police department for 7 years. It all depends on who you get, if your not breaking the law you have no reason to get stopped. If you do get stopped, YOUR ATTITUDE is "Usually" the determining factor if you get that ticket or not. Sometimes that is not the case, he or she has made up there mind before they ever talk to you. "Follow the law and decrease your chances of getting nailed"

Carl,

Needless to say, but you just stepped all over your crank here. Best to keep your comments to chasing the wily porker and stay away from the legislative scene.

gonehunting--you live a charmed life. It just doesn't get any better than that, unless they make you a Game Warden. I hope you enjoy your tour and get lots of pigs. If you see a silver Dodge Caravan around the Areas, say Hello. I would love to meet other JHO hog chasers.
