I have a registered AR-15 that i bought in 1996. This particular rifle is obviously the post-94-ban configuration without the flash suppressor and bayonet lug.

I was told recently that since it is registered as an Assault Weapon with the State of California...I can now add a flash suppressor, collapsible stock, etc....basically, since it was registered...i can now add any of the "evil" features that i want.

The explanation given to me seemed totally reasonable..and based on everything i've read...i think this guy was right...

If it's true, i feel like a total fool for never figuring this out!! lol

But it makes sense, right? My mini-14 is not classified as an assault weapon by the state...and since it has a detachable box magazine...i can't have a pistol grip, flash supressor, collapsible stock, etc...And since the AR-15 IS considered an assault weapon...it can have whatever on it. (??)

I hope you all aren't saying "duh" right now.

I do not know the exact answer, but I know some of the guys over at calguns.net will know. There are ways around it, but being that it is registered as an A/W I do not know the exact laws on that.

I heard the same thing from a guy I work with who frequently cruises an AR-15 forum. He isn't here right now for me to ask but I'm sure a Google search will turn something up. Good luck.

If it is truly a registered AW, you can legally add all of the "evil features" your heart desires. If I may make a suggestion......the folks over at AR15.com are generally NOT very CA friendly. They have some good reading over there, but if you need to ask some ???'s. CALGUNS.net is probably a better bet. Have fun . Almost forgot, you can call/write/email the AG all you want. They more than likely will NOT answer your questions, or the answer will be so vauge...........that they won't answer your questions.
