That'd be a good area if it's eventually opened up to public hunting. I grew up not that far from there and the Buttes was the only hog hunting I knew about close-by in the 70s.

Joe Becker sent this email back to me:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
Send a letter or email to State Parks & Recreation Commission simular to what Mike from Irvine emailed to them. Pasted below, short and simple and to the point. Use your own wording, be polite, short and to the point.
Thanks
Joe

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to ask that the State Parks and Recreation Commission designate the 1,800-acre Peace Valley site in the Sutter Buttes area a recreation area, rather than a park or preserve.  My concern is that the Department of Fish and Game should manage the wildlife there, and regulate public hunting on this land, as it does on numerous wildlife areas in the area.  People hunted on this land for years when it was privately owned.  Now that it belongs to the people of California, I encourage the Commission to work with DFG to allow public hunting access.

Sincerely,[/b]

Anyway, anyone have an address for the State Parks and Recreation Commission? Is there any other address where it might have some bearing when we send such a request?

I read in the Times on sunday that it's going to be designated as a "park". That really sucks...

: From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The state Parks and Recreation Commission has picked a 1,785-acre site in the Sutter Buttes for California's newest state park.

The new park won't be open to the public soon. It's surrounded by privately owned land and can be reached only by a rugged dirt road.

The state bought the Peace Valley site for $2.9 million in 2003.
