Cabelas Pine Ridge Binos

I've searched the forum and read with interest the comments about the Cabelas Pine Ridge binos. I'll be ordering a pair soon - the 10x42's.

I would like some input on roof prisms vs. the porro prism. The roof prism is 6oz lighter than the porro - not much difference.

However, the FOV @ 1,000 yards is 315 for the Roof and 341 for the Porro.

The Roof model is obviously more compact. But would my 40+ eyes appreciate the larger FOV from the Porro??

Currently I'm glassing with a pair of Bushnell Citations, 7x35, FOV is 357. So, the Cabelas Roof prism has a 12% smaller FOV than what I'm currently used to and the porro prism is 5% smaller.

Is this a coin-toss decision or are there other factors to consider??

I would go with the porro prisms at that price range. It is much easier to manufacture porros that willl have a quality view than roofs. That is part of the reason that the high end roofs are so expensive. Another thing to consider is the coatings. Roofs have more glass to glass boundries for the light to pass through to get to your eyes than do porros. The way that this is overcome in roofs is to phase coat the lenses. If roofs are not phase coated, then the view will appear darker than through a porro of the same specs. I don't think that the pine ridge binos are phase coated in the roofs. In my opinion, acceptable roof prism binos start in the $300 range. My 2 cents.
