Has anyone ever seen or been successful in the Cache Creek BLM area??? I want to check it out in the next few weeks but don't want to waste too much time there if it is void of animals. I understand it used to be somewhat productive but any recent sightings or reports? Someone told me there are a few ranches in the area that offer guided hunts for turkeys and hogs so I would assume there are animals there but I have never gotten out of my car in that area.....except to take pictures of the elk herds

Waste of time?

If you don't go, and see for yourself, then you are wasting time.

Maybe you are not made for hunting if you think going to a place a seeing just elk is a waste of time.

9 out 10 I've been out and not seen my quarry and I still find it worthwhile.

Take up golf.

Ouch...but good points

I guess I should clairify. I have been going to FHL and was looking for someplace closer that is why I brought up Cache Creek. I know you have to put in time...heck I have not even seen a pig at FHL but I know they are there and will continue to spend time there. As far as Cache Creek it is only 2 hours from me not 3 1/2 hours like FHL.

Just want to know if there are hogs around the public areas. I have yet to explore Cache Creek and want to very soon.....I know first hand there are turkeys there!

There are hogs in the area. I've seen sign on a couple of occasions but am yet to have seen a hog.

No time outdoors is a waste of time as far as I'm concerned. I don't get enough time in the field so it's all precious...whether I see something or not.

You have to move to Hawaii or Wyoming or Alaska to be able to shoot big game in abundance. For best bet in public land hunting, the Los Padres NF, FHL, Camp Roberts and the Northern Calif. National Forests are better than other BLM or Nat. Forest areas. Access is the main hindrance. And also the soaring gas prices. It is most probably better and cheaper to book a cabin and private hunt with Deedy at Bryson Hesperia Resort. Other than that, bring a .22LR and when the hog hunting becomes bone dry, well shoot a cottontail for the crockpot with some carrots, potatos, pepper and Knorr's chicken bouillon, then you cannot say that you went home emptyhanded. Dinner with cottontail on the crockpot is deeeeelicious. That in essence is California hunting for you. You score quickly and surely with a private land hunt and you come home mostly with cottontail for the crockpot on public land big game hunting.'Nuff said.

I've seen sign of pigs there, not in abudance but they are around. Maybe go turkey/pig hunting with your bow. Or your gun with some slugs in your pocket. Good luck, let us know how you do.

Saw hogs at Cache Creek last year while deer hunting and haven't run across them since. Just there yesterday turkey hunting and saw some small, old, dry rooted areas. The place is bone dry. If you do decide to go, work the ridges that overlook water.

CC is a two hour drive for me also, and I can't think of a better way to spend a day than to carry a rifle, shotgun or bow and go for a nice 8 hour long hike.

I've seen a little pig sign there but not much. Lots and lots of turkey hunters using the place right now. Saw lots of trucks parked there yesterday on my way to clear lake.
