Howdy to all my Elk Friends.........

Well finally, after 13 long years, I got the beautiful letter saying "SUCCESSFUL".
With this (BULL) tag now I can hunt 5 different Areas(Bishop, La Panza, Independence, Whitney, and Tinemaha). Problem.....I don't know much about these areas. I'm an old Disabled Archer and was hoping for a little help from my friends(as the song goes). Any tips, tricks, or places to try would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much in advance

I can't help out but I can say congrats. That would be a killer tag to have.

I would definitely give the biologist of that area a call. Congratulations, looks like I have a while to draw that tag.

Not a hard zone to hunt at all. Find the tracks around the alphalfa fieds and follow the out into the desert. If you can get a day or two to scout you should have no problem. On a side note you will not drive up on these animals. Best bet is to catch them coming or going from the fields or stalk them once they bed. Congrats on the tag

Thanks guys, I appreciate the reply's. I've got a call into the Biologist right now and I'll definitely take your suggestion to go up early and scout.
I've Bow hunted deer in calif for the last 45yrs and have killed some nice Bucks (even a couple High Ranking P & Y's) mostly in Northern Calif, but this will be my first Elk Hunt. Unfortunately, A couple years ago I was in a Construction Accident and shattered my right arm which ended my bow hunting career. To this day, I still cannot pull my Bow to Full draw. At least F&G allows me to use a crossbow during the archery season so I'll have to live with that.
Thanks again guys and if anyone else has any insight, knowledge of area, or just plain Elk tips or tricks.....I'm all ears

I cannot help you with the area as I have not elk hunted in California, but I have killed a couple roosevelt bulls and have been a caller or with people that have killed about 20 elk so if you need any tips, or have questions pm me and I can either answer them or give you my number and we can chat. Depending on when you are going to hunt them calling can be really effective. Do you have people going with you? A caller behind you can be very successful.

I think La Panza was typed in error and was supposed to be Lone Pine.

Just want to take a moment and THANK YOU GUYS VERY MUCH for help in learning a little more about the area. You guys are awesome. I plan on going up about a week or so prior to opening day, and with some good tips and info from you all, at least I won't be going in blind. Now all I gotta do is make a Good Shot(easier said then done).

Thanks again my friends
