I have heard a lot of different things about the Ca 10 round magazine law. I have searched the web and the only information I found was that any gun with a clip or a magazine can only hold 10 rounds. There was nothing on a permanent magazine. Like a 20 round mag converted to only hold 10 rounds. I could not find any information which states that the magazine if converted need to be glue permanent or riveted to be legal. Has anyone found any info on this subject. I have some mag blocks I just put into my 20 round magazine that will make it hold 10 rounds so I will be legal but I can still take out the block and make it a 20 rounder it I wanted too. Has anyone found any info on this ridicules subject.

Law says if it can hold more than 10rounds its illegal but a 20round mag with a 10round block is also legal. They sell 30round rebuild kits but they can't sell them built. As long as you don't assemble it to fit more than 10 rounds you are legal. The mag blocks are a good way to stay legal.

From what I have seen, many shops will glue the base plate (which pisses me off) just to protect themselves from people removing the "block" even if they use rivets.

You can buy blocked 30 round magazines, but I like the 20's because the 30's stick out too far.

People just use whatever they have to block down to 10 but I'd make sure whatever you use can stand up to someone deliberately trying to get past the block. I've heard that in areas where you can only have 2+1 shotgun shells for hunting, and people sometimes use a stick or branch, the rangers sometimes jam the heck out of the mag well to try to get the stick to break...just saying.

I found out why the Ultimate Bullet Button installation is recommended for the front side only after I took a magazine apart to check why the spring was jamming.

from what i heard the mag blocks are NOT legal. the sure fire mags that say 10/30 are OK but converting a 30 to take 10 is not ok. i got the info from an LAPD officer so it may not be 100% accurate but the cop or who ever is checking it thinks it is illegal you are gonna screwed even if it is legal, court and lawyers and all that BS. and dont forget, high cap mags are a felony. that meens no more guns for ever! Bottom line just be sure ur legal, better safe than sorry.

a friend of mine told me that as long as the bottom plate can not be removed it is legal to have a magblock. so if you take a 30 rounder and put the block in and super glue the hell out of it you should be ok but if a ranger or cop or who ever can remove the bottom plate you are in trouble. this is from a pretty reliable source but do so at your own risk.

buy some 30 rounders and leave them at home where you'll need them and take 10 rounders out to the range.

It is legal. Go to Calguns or ar15.com and there is loads of info on firearms law and what is legal in California.

When I worked at a gun shop, we would convert so called "hi-cap" mags to 10 rounds but, as mentioned in another post, we glued (gorilla glue w/plastic mag) or tack welded (metal mag) the base plate to prevent the shop from incurring any liability.

From the calguns.net forums:
Yes, you can take one of those kits and create a 10-round magazine from the parts and some method of blocking the capacity; one example here. The modification is supposed to be 'permanent', but there is no guidance on what that means in law, regulation, or court cases. Use your best judgement.

Most of the ones I have purchased are glued, or somehow permanent.
