Hey All, I am needing some feedback on "Buck Mountain Hunting Club" ,Boonville California as well as any input on Craig Van Housen owner operator. I have a friend that joined as a new member this year. So far , 5 days of Hunting : 5 deer seen , passed 1 small forked horn, 0 hogs . Hunters on the ranch every day. I was interested in the Club but to date my friends results aren't very good. So far for the season 25 days , the club Total of 15 members plus 1 family member ea ,ie multiple tags = 4 Bucks taken .1 3x3 the rest Forked horns. If you have any information , let me know. Thanks

As most deer hunters know, hunting picks up as the season goes on. You posted half way through the Zone A Deer season making the ranch look bad. I can tell you the exact results at the end of the season.
Three 3x3s. Eight 2x2. One 4x4. One 4x3. Two 3x2s. Total of 15 Bucks taken. There were 11 legal bucks passed up because they were too small for the hunter. There were 4 nice bucks shot at and missed. A total of 4 pigs taken. Not everyone signs up to take a pig. One pig was passed up because he was too big. The hunter wanted a meat pig, not a big ole boar.

Some of our "Forked horns" are 18 to 20" wide. You would think they should be a 3x3 or 4x4, but just a big pacific forked horn.

The numbers very from year to year. Not everyone hits the buck they are shooting at (Buck fever) sometimes sets in. :)
Oh..... and the Terry Knight thing ..... not too sure. He is an Outdoor writer. Maybe he was with me that day. Don't remember. Last time I checked, the 70,000 acre Cache Creek Wildlife area was public land. They run cattle out there so riding on horseback out there works pretty good. I have slid of my horse several times and have killed coyotes out there. Just trying to do my part in helping to save as much of the deer population as I can.

So what you are saying is we can all hunt that land and no need to pay a Club? Interesting. I wonder if that's what people do with land locked public lands. Not playing fair...

What land locked public land?? Cache Creek isn't land locked. Anyone can go on it. No vehicles allowed. Walk, ride a bicycle or horse.

I was just making a observation. I have never known about people charging to hunt on public land and was just guessing that people would do that with public land that borders private land. Sad for people to take advantage of things like that. All the game belongs to all of us tax payers here in California.

They didn't want to have to walk in. They got ahold of me and wanted to pay me to ride my horses in. I just see it as a service as another option for someone to get into remote area that doesn't want to have to walk. I guess kinda like going to a car rental place to rent a car to drive on the public Hwy.

It has nothing to do with bordering any private land. It's all wide open for public access. Anyone can get to it anytime.

I thought this was a post for a private hunt club. So when someone posted about it being public land, I thought it was neat that private clubs would operate on public land. I than thought maybe land locked hunting could work the same. I have read about and know of such land. I never said this land in post was locked or that people are bad to ride a horse on any land. I was just making what I thought was a observation. Sorry if it seemed like I was stirring the pot. :lol bashing sign:

Id say about half of Cache Creek is NOT wilderness area so is accessible by motorized vehicles. Lots of guys ride quads in from the accesses on hwy 16, you can even drive all the way to hwy 16 from the Morgan Valley Rd side (though you cant cross the bridge so would have to turn around right before hwy 16).

Also, youre not allowed to ride a bicycle on wilderness area. No mechanized travel allowed.
