I'm going to try a different method of distributing my California Bucks and California Hog Hunter newsletters so they are in the right stores throughout the state. This is the deal. I'm looking for hunters, readers of the publications, to distribute copies to the best gun and hunting shops in their immediate area. I'll ship them however many copies they need (and I can also provide simple counter stands if the shop does not already have a magazine sales rack). The reader puts them in the store each quarter. When then next issue comes out, any remaining copies are removed and the new ones put in. They will bill the store for only the issues sold (using simple forms I provide). They will charge the store $2.50 per issue sold (which is a hell of a markup for the retailer, since the store will sell them for $5.95). I'll give readers paperwork that will make the billing process easy.
I want $1.75 of that $2.50, meaning the reader will make 75 cents per issue sold. I know that's not a lot of dough, but it might be enough to take the wife out to a nice dinner each quarter. If they make checks out to California Bucks and/or California Hog Hunter, I'll send the reader the money he's earned. If the store makes the check out to the reader, they can send me a check. Either way works for me. Or I can do the billing entirely from my end, and all the reader will have to do is drop off issues and provide me with the name and address of his contact at the store.
Small shops will probably sell 15 to 20 copies per quarter, but some of the bigger shops might sell 40 or more. Again, no one is going to make a lot of money, but most of us visit our local gun or hunting shops pretty regularly anyway. This will give a guy an excuse to stop by and pay him for his time. It will give me someone who's interested in my product placing them in stores where he has a rapport.
Since you have guys reading your Hunting Page scattered all over the state, I'm starting with your guys first in hopes of getting 15 to 30 people who will get the newsletters in all of the major stores.
You can have readers who are interested contact me via e-mail (odwriter@earthlink.net or odwriter@aol.com) or by phone (909-887-3444).
Bestest,
Jim Matthews
