My Wife and I didn’t draw Saturday again! But My niece drew a good # at Delevan and is taking us. I knew there was a reason to get family into duck hunting Lol. Have not been on an opening day in a long time. Never been to Delevan on an opener. But we know the place pretty well

Congrats, Very nice to draw a place you know !!! My brother drew San Jacinto a couple years ago on the opening and did well . I’m thinking the habitat should be great and lots of local ducks I’m not normally an optimist

0 for 6 of us family members. Not a good way to start. Might have to go sweat it somewhere.

We got lucky for once. I drew Sacramento Sunday and my neice drew Delevan Saturday. Best opener draws I’ve ever been fortunate to be part of in 30 years of putting in. Let’s see if the hunting matches the draws lol. I havn’t even gone on an opening in 5+ yrs. Lottery should be better this year. Everything is open this year

I have had seasons where I didn't get a single draw, and I have had weeks where I got two draws. Pretty random. Networking with friends who also put in for draws is the way to hunt more. I don't normally invite friends who don't put in for numbers, they're second string.

Definitely. I put in a lot of reservations. And just like most get very few Sometimes it’s nice to take a break and get a nice blind. We free roam mostly Spend time at several and get them dialed..feeling pretty thankful not to roaming on the opener lol

We used our boat blind for many years on the Salton Sea. Now that there is no where to launch because of low water we have had to rely on the refuges to hunt. We refill and sweat line from time to time depending how the refuge has been shooting and the number of birds the area is holding. There still are may more refuge days of hunting.

Salton sea is a sad story. Even when I lived down there the fishing and duck hunting were still great! We do a lot of lottery at the refuges on Tuesday and Friday nights in January. Lucky with all the refuges we have up here. In January you could sleep in and walk on at 9 and still shoot plenty of birds . Something about watching the sunrise and the world waking up is powerful medicine though !!

0/3 for us. Best I've ever got was a Sunday opener weekend for los banos. It was a ringneck day.

The Salton Sea is a sad story for sure. We had so many great boat hunts down there. We drive down the hwy 111 side on our way to the Imperial Valley to Dove Hunt a couple times every month and we never see a boat on it, 35 miles of nothing.

Man I fully feel your agony over the draw. Many damn years without much. I don’t
Depend on them during the rest of the season but. I won’t go on the opener unless I have something good. A combination of mosquitoes. Heat and crowded conditions typically keeps me out. Just got lucky for once. Has to happen eventually I think

I never hunted the salton sea. But I sure would have loved it. I read lot of stories about the place and it was literally a playground for the outdoors as well as the rich and famous. When I lived in cucamonga it was still fishing . Early 90’s Another painful loss of access

We boat hunted there non stop from 2003 to 2016. Then the last launch spot disappeared into the mud. The fishing was pretty much done then but the ducks weren't. We have always hunted Wister, my son puts in for season long, me just the opener. We both put in for season long at San Jac and a few draws at Kern.

I’ll be skipping waterfowl this year. Was going to try Cibola this year for the first time ever, even after living in the valley for 38 years. But decided to focus on archery deer instead, can’t believe how long and how perfect the season lines up with the rut. Should be fun.

I have the opportunity to hunt the Quail Opener with my regular hunting partners or hunt on a refuge draw with my son. I don't want to get disowned so I'll hunt ducks with my son. Both good possibilities. I will say this after scouting yesterday the local refuge isn't holding many birds. It'll be tough shooting a limit I'm pretty sure! If you are hunting waterfowl on the opener make ever shot count!! ................Choot Em'

There’s always Sunday for upland! We are going to scout our draws best we can Friday . I’m sure we will shoot a few. Maybe we will chase some quail the next weekend.
