Just wondering why we can't use some other cameras that are currently being used in deer cams such as the Olympus, etc??
I would like to find a narrower bodied camera to make a super small unit.
Many cameras enter into a "sleep mode" if left turned on but unused (don't know if the Olympus cam does or not). That is one major reason not to use them. To defeat the sleep mode, you have to build some logic / timer circuits to keep the camera awake. The Canon Owls, Infinity Jr and I'm sure other cams don't really go to sleep - so they are easy to use for a home-brew cam.
I did make a circuit to keep my Fuji AF-60's awake, check:
It could just be that nobody has yet tried many camera models. Gets sort of expensive to keep buying cams only to have them not work. I have a bunch of "duds" laying around the house. The Infinity Jrs are a bit smaller than the Owls, so you might use that camera. As far as I know, It's the best choice for home-brew trail camera use.
