Has anyone ever hunted pigs in Camp Roberts?
How is it? Are there any pigs? How did you hunt them?
Do you know any hot spots there?

More importantly, if you want to tent for the night, where do you go?

Has anyone hunted the BLM off G-18 right north west of Camp Roberts?

There are a lot of pigs at Camp Roberts. If you have a slug gun, hunt area 7 by the interstate along the river. Find a spot, sit down in a spot with a distant view and wait for something to move. As hot as it might be the pigs will come to water during mid-day. If you don't have a slug gun, do the same thing in area 4 by the river with a rifle. Be there at least an hour before the gate opens or you will be waiting in a loooonnnggg line.

Tent camping can be done along the interstate by the railroad tracks. You also might try the billeting office at the base. They rent rooms sometimes.

Yeah , what bighorn67 said. The tracks off to the right is a good place to rest the night before your hunt. Get up and in line by 4 A.M. or you will be behind a bunch"o" people! Area 1 and 4 last season were where i found LOTS of sign. Alot of area 7 was closed off for some reason last season although i have not checked the status this season. Good luck and after this HamSlam im up there too!!

Hoglover, Welcome to Jesses. I was up there a few weeks ago doing a biological impact study and there was tremendous troop activity on base. When we checked in they were uncertain if the base would remain open for any of the remaining scheduled hunts? Anyway, you'll have to call the info line for more current updates. As far as pigs, there is a ton of information from the past. Do a search and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Hope this helps.

Hoglover, If you live within 3 hours CR is the best public land hunting you'll find for the money. I've seen a few nice hogs come off CR. However, I've never taken one off CR either. I've hunted all the public land to death around here and it's as good as public land gets. I want to make at least one day but I'll know more at the end of the week.

Camp Roberts is a really good public land hunt. The guys posting before me have really summed it up. If I were going on this hunt, I would get there really early so I could be one of the first in line. I would have all of my paper work filled out and as soon as I was done checking in I would drive to the "high water bridge", walk across it and sit on the down stream side (the side closet to hwy 101) just below the bridge. And then wait!! And I would wait until 11am before I moved. That area is Archery, shotgun, or muzzleloader only. I might even take a snack and wait until noon. That's what I would do.

Make sure you pre-register for the sunday hunt when you check out on Saturday evening.

Good Luck.
