OK JHP'ers here's the total as of 11:09 am. SUN 13 hogs were shot and today,Mon, so far there has been two hogs checked in. I heard one great story about a father and daughter team who are JHPers, who scored.but I'm going to let the proud dad tell it. I hope everyone has found a new place to hunt here at camp roberts, I heard there was some problems with hunters not getting out at the 9:00pm checkout, please let me know if you had any problems with DFG or military staff, so we might get it change for the better. You all have to remember that CR is a active military base that is still at a high treat level and it took a lot of talking to the base CO and security forces to keep the hunt open to the public, I just hope everyone had a good time, and there was no problems.

Success! I took one 150lb sow and two little ones around 25lb and 35lbs. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the herd of 12 hogs near the river (thought my mind was playing tricks on me). I ran into the bush to cut them off and to my suprise there was an other herd of about 5 across the river. I shot the big sow first and then shot the little ones on the run. I couldn't believe what had happened, everthing was in slow motion.

I shot them late Sunday around 8:05, since I had to cross the river to get them it was going to take me a while to get back. On the way to the other side of the river the DFG officer stopped us, not a biggy, but I was running short on time since I had to be at the gate at 9:00pm. Well, I took the flash light and we made the big descent down to the river. The two small ones were not a problem getting up to the truck, but the bigger sow took us a while, we had to carry it up a 40ft steep hill (didn't have time to field dress). Well the time was about 9:07pm whem we ran into one of the soliders/security on the main road, I guess he was just checking up on us to see if everything was ok.

I would make the story more interesting but I am dead tired and I can't wait until I sleep. I will post pics asap.

Didn't run into any JHPers but some of you that went might of seen me, I was in the black F150 supercrew.

RKRIII and I got there Saturday afternoon. The DFG guy and the soliders at the gate were not only helpful but polite. They were great.

The pigs and the wind were not as kind. Didn't see any pigs or fresh sign on Saturday. When we got back to our tent that night we discovered that the wind had blown the cooler over in the tent (it was there to make sure the tent didn't blow away). The melted ice soaked all of my clothes, pillows and sleeping bag. Tired and worn we went to sleep early.

Despite the cold, wet accomodations we were able to get some shut-eye, until the trains came. Being the Mensa Candidates that we are, we set our tent up not 20ft from the tracks. Note to self: trains are big, long and laud. One came through at about midnight and another a little later.

Long story short, we got up late and went home. All of the discomfort was our fault for packing too lightly, bringing a rather tall tent, and camping too close to the railroad tracks. However, we feel that deep in Area 4 we will get some pigs next time.

Had a great time. After seeing a countless healthy Bucks my 14 year old son told me we have to come back for the Junior Buck and pig hunt. We managed to get one 170# sow in area 4. 2 trucks came down a road at 6:20a.m. while the 3 of us were just moving in real slow on a small ridge overlooking 2 draws. we had just seen 2 cow Elk and a coyote when these guys jumped out of there trucks and the shooting began. We moved downhill trying to see through the trees and this big sow is running across the hill right by us at 35 yards. Well while she's running the gauntlet, Bart shoots first with his 870. He misses and it's my turn with my son Cody next in line. Unfortunately for Cody my first shot out of my 30-06 got her elbow and my next one spined her and put her down. As he lay on her back kicking Bart walked up and put her out of her misery with a 12Gauge shot to the head. Meanwhile these othe guys were after the other 7 pigs and came back with 2. We saw more action the next day but couldn't get another. Thanks for your help Lowell and I hope Great White Hunter and his daughter got home OK.

Hey Slug, did you stay in one of the big houses on the hill? There was another group of hunters in there and was just wondering if it was you. I agree with you 100%, its the way to go.

David, we were at the bottom near the main gate next to the church, athletic field and burned down rec center. For $18.50 anight per person you got a full kitchen 2 bathrooms and fridges in each bedroom and a living room with couches and a tv.
Hey GreatWhiteHunter, did you get home alright with your daughter? 5 hours up then hunt all day then 5 hours home in the middle of the night is a tough way to go.

We made it back, only after about 4 or 5 20 minute rest-stops. Thanks, Slugblaster.

GUNNER - I do believe it was us! We got 2 at about 7:30 Sunday, and the F&G pulled up moments after. He took this picture for us.

They came running over the hills (in the background) and we ran about 100 yards along the river, from tree to tree, to intercept them. I got mine at about 75 yards with my break-action single shot using 12ga slugs. That shooting was me trying to keep that thing down (plus a clean miss on another one). Chrissy got hers when about half the group tryed to circle around us, at about 25 feet with her .410 slug. This was Chrissy's first time, ever, hunting.

Boar Tracks, too bad I missed you. I drank your Silver Bullets when I got home. There will always be some for you in the cooler, whenever I'm up there at Camp Roberts.

Heard many good things about CR. Anything hunts for June? May not make it on July 4th due to other stuff planned. Never been there and willing to give it a try.
