I have the Canon S3 IS, and I'm very happy with it.
But I'm no pro....

I just picked up the Kodak EasyShare 7.1-Megapixel Digital Camera
Z712IS today. I love the 12X Zoom on this thing and it's really easy to use. The only think I recommend if you do decide on this camera is to buy a good set of rechargable AA batteries and at least a 1 GB SD memory card. Dell has the cheapest price around for this camera. I got mine for $239.00, I seen it at Best Buy for $299.00

Here are some recent pics on a Cannon PS S3 6.0mp. The squirrles are about 40 yds and the deer are roughly 1000yds then through a 40x spotting scope. I included the long shots for a better reference.

I'd stay away from the 4by I have the cannon powershot in 6.0mp and it takes great pics but I wish I could get better close ups on the the birds. Don't know much about cameras but would be going with a 12 by if I had it to do all over. things that are worth there weight, is the larger memory card and a must is the rechargable batterys and charger. Good luck let us know what you get.

D zone that Kodak sounds like a good deal

Been considering the PS S3 IS as well.

If you're considering the Kodak Z712 I would get the P712....I've seen it at Sam's Club for $300, which isn't much more than the price on the Z712.

I really like the features on the Sony H7, but spare batteries are $50 and you have to use the Powerstick..which is ok, but I'd rather have a SD card. The 8 MP and 15X zoom may outweigh that though.....

I like the 10 MP Panasonic, but the price and size/weight put it out of the running for me.

The S5 IS is still too pricey and I hear the photo quality is not as good as the S3 IS......

I'm holding out a few more months...will decide before the next kid arrives since I want to be able to get some good photos then....

Food for thought!

The power Shot S3 has a 12x zoom which is huge among point and shoot cameras. You will only foin a couple of others in that range one is $100 less and you can feel that if you play with the camera. Not to mention the quality of the camera glass I believe Cannon and Nikon use Ziess.

I have blown up a few pics to 8x10 and at 6mp they are still extreamly clear, no pixles, no blur.

Cannon makes a telephoto and macro lens attachments for the S3 so you can get as close or as far as you need!

From the reviews I've seen, this is the adapter to get for the powershot...much better than Cannon's

My wife bought me a Cannon S2 IS for my birthday and I love. We both do. So much, that she went out and got one for herself so that we don't have to share mine...
