Carrizo Plains Ecological Reserve Hunt Schedule 2008/2009

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) will provide controlled hunting opportunities on the Chimineas Unit of the Carrizo Plains Ecological Reserve during the 2008/2009 hunting seasons.

Walk on hunting for dove, rabbit, quail, and wild pig is permitted on Wednesdays and Saturdays September 1-15 and all of December, January and February during the appropriate seasons on the South Chimineas Unit. Walk on access is only available from Highway 166. The North Chimineas Unit is closed to walk on hunting. All hunters are required to have free access permits which are available at the Feed Lot parking lot and at the Caliente Peak trailhead. All access is prohibited during the elk hunting season in October and November.

Application deadlines for drive on hunts on the Chimineas Unit are:

- Sept. 6-7, 2008 for dove, pig and rabbit. Applications must be received by Aug. 7. Include "Attention: September Chimineas Hunt" when addressing an envelope to DFG. This hunt will be held on the North Chimineas Unit

- Dec. 13-14, 2008 for dove, quail, pig and rabbit. Applications must be received by Nov. 13. Include "Attention: December Chimineas Hunt" when addressing an envelope to DFG. This hunt will be held on the South Chimineas Unit.

- Jan. 10-11, 2009 for, quail, pig and rabbit. Applications must be received by Dec. 11. Include "Attention: January Chimineas Hunt" when addressing an envelope to DFG. This hunt will be held on the South Chimineas Unit.

- Five additional permits for each hunt will be allotted to mobility-impaired hunters. The application process is the same as for the regular drawings. Applicants should add the words "Special Draw" on the Attention line. Successful applicants must have a Mobility Impaired Disabled Persons Motor Vehicle Hunting License or a standard handicap vehicle placard or license plate on the day of the hunt. If more than five applicants apply, there will be a drawing among the mobility-impaired applicants.

One application per hunt may be submitted. Twenty-five permits will be drawn for each hunt and each permit is good for two hunters.

All applications must be received by 5 p.m. on the due date at California Department of Fish & Game, 20 Lower Ragsdale Drive, Suite 100, Monterey, CA. 93940. Applicants need to submit a self-addressed envelope and a letter or postcard with the hunter's name, address, telephone number, and hunting license number. Applications received late, incomplete, or without a self-addressed envelope will not be considered in the draw.

Successful applicants will receive additional information, including maps and special regulations, prior to the hunt.
