any luck at carrizo plains . I was told that you have to by a pass to hunt this area anyone know were to get the pass at. any info appreciated. :JHP rocks:
If it's the adventure pass you can pick one up at Big 5 in bakersfield or K-Mart in Atascadero. I don't think you need anything though. I have some maps and stuff they mailed me if you need it.
rudy i hunt this place all the time and as far as i know you only need the pass for the forestery not for carriso if your not sure you can call the blm office and ask them but i have been stoped by dfg and blm officers over there and have never been asked for one just make sure you stay on the rds and park in the parking areas you should be fine
thanks alot guys i plan on hunting the area but dont want a fine. have you ever seen pigs there in this weather. the way i see it is there up at night and bedded down in the afternoon. little more tuffer to hunt now than when its cool weather. one time at camp roberts i shot a hog the last half hour before dark on a hot day so they do move but when they have to. they need water
I've seen 1 up there around the "graveyard" on the left side of soda lake rd if you are coming in from 166. watch the tops of the hills right by the rd for 1 that has a gated area on top (real small area), turn on that rd & go behind the hill. I saw him about 3 yrs ago but a 250 Sav with 87gr slugs is a bit light so I didn't try for him, plus not having tags or a car that would hold him lol. Good luck.
