Celebrations will highlight Hunting and Fishing Day

The area will celebrate Hunting and Fishing Day on Saturday with events on both sides of the Mississippi River.
Everything will be free but the food at the Busch Conservation area near Weldon Spring and at Nilo Farms, near Brighton, Ill.
At the Busch Area, activities will include 5-stand, sporting clays, trap and skeet, archery and muzzleloader shooting, plus flycasting and fishing in Lake 15.
Hunting dog clubs will give demonstrations and experts will give seminars on nature photography and wildlife calling. Booths will include Gateway Bass'n Gals, St. Louis Big Game Hunters, Wild Turkey Federation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Pheasants Forever and the Missouri Sport Shooting Association.
All this happens between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., rain or shine. The Busch area is south of U.S. 40-61 via Missouri Route 94 and St. Charles County Route D. For information call 636-441-4554.
Nilo Farms is holding its 31st anniversary of the Hunting and Fishing Day. Attractions include an archery demonstration, beginner and adult shotgun shooting, airgun shooting, reloading, and tours of Nilo Kennels.
Clubs with booths are the Migratory Waterfowl Hunters, Ducks Unlimited, Midwest Gobblers, Otter Creek Hunting Club, Piasa Rifle & Pistol Club and Illinois Department of Natural Resources Fisheries.
Nilo Farms is at 15025 Illinois Route 111, between Godfrey and Brighton.
About 800 people are expected to attend The Shooting for the Future fund-raiser Saturday at Grant's Farm, according to organizer Mike Benecke. Auctions and drawings will offer dozens of guns, including collector pieces valued up to $20,000, plus hunting and fishing trips around the world. Tickets ($250) are available from Benecke at 314-707-7701, mbenecke1@aol.com.
The Monroe County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited is also holding a dinner auction Saturday. For tickets, ($60 for couples, $45 for singles), call Jeff Bicklein, 618-281-4165 or Don Mantz, 618-286-5590.
The Peabody Riverking State Fish and Wildlife Area near New Athens will celebrate with free wingshooting clinics for children age 10-15 and women.
Booths will include the Turkey Bluffs Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Big Muddy Chapter of Waterfowl USA, Silver Creek Quail Unlimited, the Mississippi Valley Gun Club, Muddy Waters Marina and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. For reservations call Chris Hespen, 618-785-2555.
