For a rifle hunt, which Central CA outfitter do you recommend? I've looked through the Reviews but most aren't that current. So far Twisselman's and Camp 5 seem to be the top players. Anyone know of Cross Country Outfitters and Boaring Experiences?

Thanks!

Kyler at Boaring is top-notch from every report and post I've read.

Marty Rovenstein, out of San Miguel, CA ran a simple operation w/good hunts.
Not a ranch style hunt w/a lodge, but it fit the bill for me.

I had good experiences w/hum on pig hunts.

He's the guide we use. Been in business for 25 years. I've known him for 25 years too. 22,000 acres of the very best hawgin' on the Central Coast. A couple weeks ago we had the JHO New Years hunt here. I called Tommy and asked him if he'd bring A(ONE) hog for a skinning demonstration. He called me a couple days before and said he was trying to bring both boar AND sow to show the different ways to skin both, That morning he brought both sexes- harvested of course that morning- and no they were not trapped at his convenience. The best thing about Tommy is he's the funnest guide (and guy) I know - You will get pigs and have a blast doing it, Deedy - you can check him out at JHO Hog Forum "Bryson Resort many thanks" thread started by Larrysogla I think it was 12-31 ish lots of photos are there...

I couldn't get them downsized to post them here last night. Anyway, here's Tommy and Blake teaching us how to skin, he'll help you if you ask about where to find pigs, looking for sign and those kind of things. They are very helpful.

Thanks for all the info guys. I will look into each outfitter and hopefully I'll have some pics and a story to tell in the spring.

I'll second that. Ask him about the one legged guy that got bite by the rattlesnake. I'm sure he remembers me.
<
That sucker bit me on my fake leg 3 times before I figured out what the hell it was. I just kept felling my jeans move. Never once heard a rattle. Tom was gutting out my buddies hog by headlight just a few minutes after sunset and I never saw the darn snake. I was standing next to a fencepost just leaning a against it talking to Tom. I used to hunt with him all the friggin time while going to school at Cal Poly.RG

Railguner- I called Tommy this morning and read this post to him (He doesn't get on line ever). He started cracking up with that great laugh of his, He said you were STANDING on the snake! He said it didn't have very many rattles and it was making this weird rattle noise not like a normal rattler would. He said it was just tappin' away on your leg tryin' to get you off of the rest of his body. Anyway he laughed and said that was like 25 years ago, says hello, says he'll never forget that. Great to hear from you.

Sounds like a great guide. Did they barbecue those hogs? If you don't mind me asking, about how much does it cost to go on a guided hunt with Tommy W.? Thanks.

The only thing I wanted to add to that very informative post is that it's a two day hunt- Oh and no the pigs didn't get BBQ'd that day, we hang them for a while. We did have lots of BBQ's though. And alot of fun!

Do most ranchers or outffiters let you hunt with hi power rifles?
Can I find more areas to hunt in Ca if I hunt with a shotgun or muzzleloader?
Are these two last ones more friendly to the ranch owner? or it doesn't matter everywhere is the same?
