I was there about 2 years ago. I saw the pig I mentioned and two other guys who had been there before me had two hogs gutted and skinned in the cooler. Another guy came in with a gutted hog but he took it with him in the back of his truck. My first question to you would be what was the moon phase? The last time I was there I was on someone else's 'schedule' which meant there at full moon. You may find pigs like to root under a full moon and therefore they sleep when you are out hunting.

The hunt with pigman1993 (I'm the cousin) went poorly. Lots of traffic on the properties we hunted, and nary a pig to be seen. I saw two the first afternoon, at least 1000 yards off. they were haulin' a$$ down a hill...no telling where they were going to go when they hit the bottom. we'd been instructed to "camp on the pig sign", so there was no future in trying to hump it across that field to try to cut off pigs that may or may not be coming in our direction. Last pigs we saw. Correction, last pigs I saw. none of the other four in the hunting party say any pigs the entire time.
A guided hunt (not @ BHR) is being researched.

Pigman1993 knows what he was getting himself into before he went. Not sure if he's told you and the rest of the group about what he read in this thread before going. But if I was him, I would have cancelled the hunt and book another hunt somewhere else considering you guys had planned for another guided hunt.

Not sure why people believe the moon has something to do with pigs being nocturnal. My opinion is that whether full moon or no moon, pigs can still see at night and choose when they want to be out. I think the fact is the good ol days of productive trespass hunt at BHR are gone. Night only feeding hogs should have left fresh tracks, rooting, trails, and tunnels through brush.

I don't think Frank Morasci is still guiding. He is listed in the Jan 2011 F&G guide list but about a year ago (below). However I left messages for him at that number (a woman's voice comes on the message machine). I never received any replies and I must have left 6 or more messages. If anyone locates him, let me know as I'd like to put him on my list or know he is no longer around.

don't think the hunt could have been cancelled because Deedy has a "no refund" policy, and Tom's (pigman1993) hunt was paid in full, in time for presentation as a Christmas gift. This is a good case of "live and learn". We went to PasoRobles for a pig hunt, but in fact, went on a snipe hunt.
The moon was just a sliver+, but the pigs only wandered in the darkness. too bad it is illegal to whack them after dark with night-vision or bright lights. We would have got out tags filled, for sure. One of the other members posted something to the effect that semi-guided hunters are placed in marginal fields, where the prime territory is reserved for the fully guided hunters. It makes sense, considering that those pigs are a limited commodity, but it still pisses me off that our group spent $2600.00+, not including food, fuel and preparation expense, just to go on a snipe hunt. Never again for me.

We originally planned for a two day hunt, but when we got there, we paid for a 1 day hunt. So if we find promising signs, then we will pay for our second day hunt at the end of our first day. We found no promising hog sign after our first day hunt, so we checked out. Hope you didn't send in the full two-day hunt price up front.
Now, THAT'S the smart thing to do. We should have done that as well. Could have applied Tom's hunt to cover his dad for one day. Damn! Gotta discover sites like this BEFORE we go hunting. Lots of good information to be had.

Not trying to stir the pot but isn't Deedy a member here? I would love to hear her side. Also seems to me if someone got really treated wrong, she might offer another self guided hunt free of charge to these guys.

BHR's hunting properties are not divided up into marginal fields and prime territories. All her hunting properties were what you saw. If you booked a fully guided hog hunt ($700) with BHR, you won't be seeing her properties. You will be arrange to hang out with Tom Willoughby. So might as well go directly with Tom Willoughby at $575 fully guided.

I believed Deedy was a sponsor of JHO through Speckmisser. And I think when Speckmisser left, some of the sponsors through him went with him. That's just my guess. But it doesn't mean Deedy cannot login and post a message as long as she go by the rule. I'd like to hear from her too.

Bryson...Deedy

hi all,

new to the site, however been out with Jesse's group many times.....many years ago. Great group of folks!

I grew up in LA. Left CA in my late teens. Live in Utah now. I try to come back and chase hogs at least once a year on Tejon. That being what it is, I'm headed to LA for work this week and some weekend play. Looked at FHL but don't think many areas will be available and what type of pressure the hogs are seeing now that Tejon is out. So, I came across Bryson while surfing the ne and thought it would be cool to go out and do the trespass deal. Now that I have read the posts, not sure I will go that route.

I have an option to go out with Jack at Hog Canyon Hunts. Any of you guys familiar with Jack and his operation?

thanks

This in not correct. No sponsors "left" with Phil and Phil did not recruit nor bring DeeDee and BHR in as a sponsor. Phil did not bring any sponsors in to JHO. If you're not involved with the operations here please don't spread misinformation like this or post your "guesses" at what happpened. If anyone has any questions about this website you can ask the folks here who run it and we'll be glad to help. Thank you. PHil did a good job here as editor for the pro staff and when we disbanded the pro staff Phil had other chores like the Hog Blog, guiding and a regular job that has kept him busy. We caught up a bit at the SHOT Show this year and he's gone to TX and doing fine.

DeeDee is a member and can log in to answer if she'd like to and give her side of the story. You can also pick up the phone and talk to her in person too.
