Mother Nature didn't make any ugly teal, especially males in their spring mating plumage.

Cinnamon teal -- which get their name from their color, not their flavor -- are no exception as the males are coated in reddish-brown body feathers with green, white and powder blue wings.

A few cinnamons are mixed amid the flocks of bluewings and greenwings currently migrating through central Kansas.

The birds are more common in extreme western Kansas.

Fortunate is the birder who sees all three species on the same water because they've accomplished the rare "teal trifecta."
