Welcome to the best hunting site out there...
Do a search on past posts and you will find all you need on this and other public hunting areas.
Like most public land this place gets hammered hard by the hunters and OHV users. The pigs are usually passing through from their night time feeding spots to their bedding areas in the thick nasty stuff. Get some maps, look for water and set up and glass...

First off, welcome to the forum!

Easy nailed it... there are hogs but they're hard to find. I have also seen them moving through New Idria, but I strongly recommend against getting caught hunting there. Watch those public land boundaries, especially over in that area, or you may be setting up for a very unpleasant experience.

By the way, there is a pretty good search function on the forum and a search for Clear Creek and Hogs should turn up a ton of discussions... that area comes up a lot on here.

There is a group of white/fed/pet pigs in the town there put on pupose of screwing hunters outside thier boundrys. Stay clear pass through and don't shoot would be my suggestion. As far as in the park thinking about checking it out one of theese days I'll take pics you should too.

Hi There. First of all, I am new to this forum, but I like what I see
<

I am from the area and I spotted this post when I first browsed the site. As of August of this year, Clear Creek is closed to all hunting due to the "threat posed" by natural asbestos in the air. You may drive the area, but under no circumstances are you allowed to exit the vehicle for hunting.

Thanks for the post Cal Hunter; and welcome. I thought the restrictions were going to be lifted late fall, after a little rain? Best check with BLM before trying to hunt there.

it's my understanding that clear creek has been opened back up to hunting........but best double check first......I'd stay clear of the new idra area...head towards condond peak....a little cold but better chance of getting a hog........and not recomended after a rain....also try the spanish lake area...where abouts you from California Hunter?

Was at clear creek last weekend, it is open again. Try goat mountain at the entrance, the road is to the left, careful it is steep and muddy especially after a rain. My hunting partner and I shot a couple up there a few years back, but we caught them passing thru. I have been back a few times since then but pig sign is sparse. I have never seen any at Spanish lake but there is plenty of sign there. As mentioned before in this thread, the hunting pressure is huge so they go nocturnal. Still allot of fun checking out new areas, and scouting, ain't that partly what it's all about! Good luck in your future hunts!

I was born and raised on a family owned ranch in Los Gatos Canyon Bird Dawg; but I live in Madera.
