I have a remington 700 SPS in .308
I am NOT a gunsmith by any means. BUT it has been fun "tinkering" with it.
I free floated the barrel.
Glass bedded the stock using a kit I purchased from Midway.
Adjusted the trigger pull to around 3 LBS. It works for me
and I also started reloading this year and have some 150gr SST's from Hornady.
I shoot 2 shot "bug-holes" and 3 shot Clover shapes.
It does have a Harris bipod on it but I recomment the "Pivot" version enstead of the standard version as I almost NEVER and on flat ground when hunting.
I also put a bubble level on the scope to prevent "cant" (also from Midway)
Super fun and well worth it.
Questions Comments or emotional outbursts welcome...

You should try 168gr. Sierera Match bullets. Typically my Ruger 77 will gorup 1/4" to 1/2" @ 100 yards with 168's and Benchmark powder.

Thanks, but I am not really a Benchrest kinda guy. I am a hunter at heart so if I cant get good groups with hunting bullets then it's really no use to me. I already spend WAY too much on my reloading shooting hobby. Last thing I need it to start buying other bullet types and reloading manuals and get addicted to shooting tight groups....I'm already addicted to reloading as it is.....I do appreciate the advice though....

Sounds like you have it worked out well enough :)

Get that first shot in the right spot and the size of your groups doesn't matter too much as all :)

:thumbs up2:Jindydiver--true on the first shot thing...I know shooting tight groups doesn't make make me a good hunter. I jut thought it was pretty cool and I had to share..
Also want to encourage anyone who wants to "accurize" their hunting rifle to try it..worst case, you mess it up and have to buy a new rifle...:)

spur that is great i am glad you got tight groups out of your hunting rifle. and clover groups are good groups for a hunting rifle IMHO. i dont reload and got 5 rounds in a and think you should be too.inch with 165 gr fed fusion with my 30-06 i was impressed but most bench rest shooters were not. and that is ok as long as i am happy with it. it makes me feel good about my shot when i have game in my scope. but maybe we should talk on a dif, forum. most bench rest shooters i know are real tack drivers. and think i should re load to get better groups but im happy with what i have and think you should be very happy with yours. job well done
