All, looks like I am going to be looking into a CO OTC tag for elk. Would not mind a cow hunt but Bull is also welcomed. Any suggestions? should I be looking at a high country hunt?

Look at the White River National Forest and Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. I shot a cow there last year and saw some nice bulls taken around the White River area. Everything is by foot or horse. You are too late for a cow tag but the bull tags are all OTC. Everything is high country but just wait for the snow to push them down. Good luck.

There are an est. 30,000 leftover cow tags so they should be no problem for you to get.

Holy smokes! thanks for the info. do you know any of the details like by when do you have to do the purchasing etc? (I guess that would depend on which hunt you wish to go to)

COHunter – Are the cow tags available for the 3rd or 2nd rifle season around unit 43. I have always been told there are no left over tags.

Looks like there will be quite a few leftover GMU 43 cow tags available. A couple hundred at least for 2nd & 3rd season.

833 were available in the draw and only 336 apllied for them as first choice and 241 for 2nd choice
