Hello I am planning my first archery elk hunt in CO. unit 12 for Sept. 2003. I am from MN and will be going on a scouting trip in July. Looking for any addvice on what areas to scout and hunt. Have been told Pagoda pk, Sand pk, Sleepy Cat pk. are good areas. If you had to choose whitch area to hunt would it be one of these? What areas do I want to stay out of? Any and all info would be great. Thank You

I cant help you with GMU 12, but I can recommend GMU 4,5,441. I went Grouse hunting in September and there were lots of Elk as well as Elk being taken by Archery hunters. Around Hahns Peak just north of Steamboat Springs and in the area around Black Mountain NE of Craig we saw lots of Elk. The area called California Park north of Hayden had a lot of Elk as well. I'm sure GMU 12 is a good area, because you cant go anywhere nowadays and not see a bunch of Elk. Wish I could tell you more, but I dont hunt Elk because of there size, but everywhere I Deer and Grouse hunt at I see them
