Yes, there is loads of BLM land with a majority of private property.
The public land is mainly brushy, steep and does not hold a lot of game. Check the DFG publication of hunting wild pigs on public lands, it describes each of the public lands state wide and gives an accurate consensus of each of the properties and just what to expect to see(or not)...
Do a back search on this topic and you will find more than enough info about this area and hunting on public lands in general.
Once again, thanx jesse...

I for one have hunted almost every piece of public land on the Central Coast since the 70s and have found that the bulk of "huntable game" uses that public land for movement or bedding (FHL or Camp Bob are big exceptions aminly because of their size and the mount of food and water). The game I have taken were either moving to or from private property onto the public land to bed or for cover. The private land has the constant food and water that the public land usually does not.
And I share general info, but do not name exact locations. Most people if they read between the lines can get a vast amount of information here on JHO pages. And once again, there are no secret spots on public land, someone has hunted it before and told their buddies and they told their buddies...
The areas that I hunted mainly by myself way back then, have become increasingly more and more crowded. In fact I gave up hunting deer during the general rifle season as it is way too dangerous(I have been scoped and shot at).
I suggest doing a back search here on ths site and there are loads of posts on this very topic...

I would not say No Game. Willing to work for it, I like easymoney have hunted the BLM lands around Coalinga since the mid 70's i stopped and haven't been back on them in about 15 years. I am 55 years old and will ware out a pare of boots faster than most people i know. Im the first one in and the last one out. The BLM land here is my back yard, its where i first started hunting and learnd to hunt and hunted for over two and a half decades. Durning that time the state has traded off most of the decent BLM land to land owners for nasty junk that is now land locked. Right now i can go to some of my old haunts and will see game 1 to 2 times out of 10 trips and im not talking about shot opportunities im just talking about seeing something, or i can go to FHL or camp Roberts and see game 6 to 7 trips out of 10, now the bases are still public and you have to deal with the same old stuff. I can say that i have never been shot at on the bases unlike the 2 times on BLM land.

wow.. i thought i read that sum were. man im glad you are ok. Did the ppl that shot at u stop and talk to u or what happened. i had a friend when i was young that was shot in the face and upper body with bird shot. The guy traced a bird down over a sum water and my buddy was on the other side of the water and got hit. The guy ran off. I think one of the other hunters jumped in the water and crossed after the guy that ran off. Not sure if they go tthe man. But my friend was ok. He had sum shot left in his face. but glad to b alive.

hope things were better for you.

ktkt70,
I assume you are addressing me.
No the idiots that shot at me in the LPNF off of Cuesta Grade did not even blink, they were brush shooting (at sounds?) and I just happened to be downrange. I yelled at them but they got back in their truck and drove off. I also had been shot at in D13 by similar peoples and doing similar things. Both cases I yelled at them but they ignored my calls. Both times on public land during rifle season.
Since I have been bowhunting, I rarely if ever see anyone else and no one has shot at me. Yet...

Over all im sure you are right on the moving through. But I know for a fact two pieces of blm right now that are holding pigs that aren't moving through they are holding tight. There is at least one really big pig in one of the groups. And the place is crawling with deer. Once again in sure you are rigjt though. The thing I have noticed on some of the blm I've hunted it time of year. Once it starts raining the pigs will move it.... Or move through.

1with,
Meaning no disrespect, but you asked for info and I complied, giving my personal opinion of hunting on public land in that partciular area.
Seems you already have a personal opinion of the area...

No offense taken and surely didn't intend to offend you, I am sorry if I came across assholish! I wasn't really trying to get feelers about the land and if there are pigs in there. It is just so hard to hint and have out in some serious miles and have had some close calls but can't get it to happen. I was more looking for someone who has done the same as I and possibly running into the same problems....... I don't want to give info to people who haven't put in the time but would love to talk to and share what I know with somebody who has. I am sorry if i sounded like I dint appreciate your help, I can use any and all I can get!

Loads of info in past posts here on JHO on this very topic. In fact there are site specific discussions on most of the public landwest of Coalinga.
If you have any specific questions PM me...
