A pic of the sunrise yesterday. I tried to focus on the distant mountains but the camera focused on the tree instead. Any one have any suggestions on how to stay focused on the part i want, i'm new to photography. The camera is a C-700. Thanks!

oneshotwonder,

I use and C2100 and it did the same thing with the factory default settings. I went in to the menu and changed is so it only focuses on what is in the target mark/crosshair. It works really well now.

That's a pretty picture. ACtually, it looks like it did a pretty good job of catching everything. There's some haze between you and the distant mountains, and yet the peaks are still pretty sharp. Nice colors and neat layers there.
Go through your users manual and find the part on focusing; it should say how to make it focus on only one spot.
