Colorado changes drawing system!!

I just read that Colorado jumped on the band wagon and will now limit its drawing tags to 80% residents and 20% non-residents. They are also considering allowing a one time banking of current points which will allow you to keep some of your points if you want to draw a tag that takes fewer points to draw. What does this mean? More confusion to the tag drawing circus!!! Ed F

Ed, i totally agree. What i liked about CO was that you pretty much knew if you had enuf points for the tag you were applying for.
Sounds like that is gonna change for at least one year until we have a year to compare it to.

It really is getting hard to stay on top of each states system. Try to get a new hunter to draw points with you or explain it to them. Its enuf to scare them off.

The 80/20 is only for GMU's that required 5 or more Resident points. Very few area's will be affected.

All other area's will be 65/35 up a whole 4-5% from the current 60/40.

I hate the point banking for 2006. The draw will not settle down until 2008, with folks hunting quality area's for 2 years in a row now if they break up they're points. It totally screws up the hunters that dont play the points game and hunt the quality 0-2 point area's.

I feel for the residents but like Paul mentioned, Co preference point system was one of the few states that you could count on drawing or not. Now, it's going to be a crap shoot for a few years and may have to eat a tag/points here or there. Personally I enjoy playing the tag drawing game, but it can be frustrating. I was planning on going elk hunting in the same area next year but now I'm not sure if I'll draw. I have to look at plan "B". COHunter do you know if there are going to be any new rules for the sheep and goat. Please tell me NO. I have 3 points/5 weighted points for both!!!! Ed F

Ah, heck....why not just do like Oregon does and only allow 5% non-resident tags?

Heck, maybe that's too much....only allow 1%...yeah, that'll show the non-residents who's boss in this state.

It only concerns Antelope, Bear, Deer, & Elk

I dumped my deer points last year in hopes of hunting an area that takes 0 points to draw, but wouldn't be possible as a 2nd choice. Who knows now, it might require a point or two the next couple of years.

I sure am glad I dumped my eight deer points this year on an early hunt. Now, what do I do with 10 elk points? I thought I just might get the 61 early rifle hunt next year, but not now. I'll die before I have enough points for a NW corner elk hunt. Perhaps go for a four or five point unit two years in a row? Looks like you will be able to keep the excess points not required to draw once. Oh well, at lest I sure enjoyed my deer hunt this year, and I can go for 0-1 point deer hunts now.
