I put in for the first rifle season (Elk only) unit 75 around Durango. Just wondering if anyone had ever hunted around Lemon or Valiecito Resivor? Also does anyone know if they have opened Missionary Ridge to hunting after the fire 3 or 4 years ago. I was thinking that area might be good because of all the new growth and lack of preasure.

Thanks,
Kevin

Its been a few years since I've hunted the Missonary area, but as COHunter said, very popular with us out-of-state guys. With your hunt, I would go as high as possible & as far from the road areas as you dare.

Very common generic advise, but get away from the crowds & get there early for a camp spot.

Oyah,
I also forgot. Get there 2 days early, & the good ole boys from the local gun club offers free sighting-in @ their club. Great people! I still laugh about the last time we were there. We pulled up to the club in our Calif. trucks, my brother walks up in his designer Columbia camo outfit, pulls out his brand new proud 300 Ultra-Mag. The boys looked him up & down & said "What the hell is that!" I about wet my pants laughing. One of the guys showed us this 15 year old beat-to-crap 30-06, which he guarantteed would and has killed more elk than the sporty 300 Ultra-Mag.

Hey COhunter...any other suggestions on where to go in that area? I know you Colorado boys don't want to give away any spots and I wouldn't either if I were you but any general suggestions would be appreciated.

I lived in Durango for 6 years so I know that area pretty good but I don't have horses to hunt off of this year so we'll be walking, or if there's any place to use a 4 wheeler we got them. Is there any national forest access that allows ATV's in Unit 75?

Thanks,
Kevin
