Major changes in some deer season dates and increases in nonresident deer permits are on the agenda for Thursday's Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Commission meeting in Garden City.

Commissioners will vote on the season changes. The permit increases have been set by the department and don't require commission approval.

Lloyd Fox, Wildlife and Parks big-game program coordinator, predicts nearly all nonresidents who apply will get permits because of the increases.

Last year, Wildlife and Parks agreed to substantial permit increases if the legislature abolished a system where half of all nonresident permits were issued to Kansas landowners for re-sale.

Fox said the transferable system took control away from the agency and was abused by permit brokers and landowners who didn't allow hunting.
