Got an email from my outfitter a couple of days ago and they said they had an awesome archery start. They killed eight or nine bulls and thats pretty good since they are a pretty small outfit in a national forest. They had a couple really good bulls(for this area)and a really nice 8x8 thats in the pic below.Heavyhorns and I are going in on a drop camp for 9-10 days for the rifle opener. So,now were just counting the days....

I should also say, that Iv'e hunted this area a couple times before and we elected to leave the horses at home this time and have the outfitter take us in and have camp ready...

That's a heck of a bull! Is that the 8x8 you were talking about, or is that one of your past kills?

I can sure relate to your excitement about the upcoming hunt, though. Good luck getting to sleep in between now and then, and even better luck when you get there!

Good luck and I know how you feel. I fall asleep going over my check list at night now.
I leave Thursday for my AZ Elk hunt.

Good luck and give it your all!

Thanks guys for all the comments and support,we will give it our best on the hunt.Have had to wait a couple years to get our tags again, but just makes it that much sweeter. The bull was killed opening day or second day, this area is not known for huge bulls, just lots of decent ones.I enjoy the area and have had pretty good luck(knock on wood)in recent trips there. They switched it to brow tine bulls and the herd has been doing well, they even opened it up to either sex after the first seven days of the season.I will admit to missing a step uphill poke at a huge bull back in 96' that was harvested the next week by a local, that went a hair over 370'.Probably the biggest bull,I will ever get to see.

The area is south-west Montana in the Beaver-head NF between the Ruby and Madison rivers. Here's a couple more that were killed during the last couple weeks with the outfitter.[attachment=45417:14_erwin...15webuse.jpg][attachment=45418:14_arche..
