Me and a buddy leave this Thursday for our cow elk hunt in the Panguitch Lake area starting on Saturday.

Talked with the DFG guy who told me the weather has been pretty cold with a few inches of snow on the ground. Also said possible to get a bit more snow while we are there.

Never hunted elk before, but we are very excited about this trip. We have 8 days to hunt and will make the most of it.

Hopefully pictures to follow

It's definately cold before the sun rises and after it sets...in the mornings it's been in the single digits up until a few days ago.

You'll have a blast. Good luck!

Good luck. Have you ever hunted the area before? I hunted the area a number of times for deer and a couple times for elk. Drop me a line if you want to chat. I'll be on the riverr for a duck hunt Tuesday and Wednesday and leaving for a different cow elk hunt in Utah on Friday, but I will be answering my emails.

Well we got back last Thursday morning. We hunted hard all over the Lake Panguitch area. Hunted from Sidney Valley, Sage Hen, Five Mile, Indian Hallow, North Shore, and many others.

Snowed on us pretty good on Sunday so we headed back to the hotel around 1100 because you could only see about 25 yards. The wind was blowing really hard making the snow burn when it hit your eyes. Started early the next day on fresh tracks and found where someone had killed a cow. Followed the blood tracks around, and into the woods for tracking experience. Found the drag marks and called it.

We saw several nice bucks, and too many does to count but could not get on the cows. Also had two nice bulls cross the road in front of us from the east side of the road near Pole Hallow (thats for you bull hunters next year). Saw lots of great country with fresh snow and broke many tracks while hunting. Also saw some spikes near Myers Valley that ran across the road in front of us and stopped about 20 yards from us. Too bad we didnt have spike tags.

Met some nice people from the area, and a couple guys from Rancho Cucamonga (SP) in one of the restraunts who pointed us in a direction where they had seen some cows.

I am trying to get back there from the 4th-8th to fill my tag. Got the OK from the wife but now trying to fit it in my work schedule. Hope it pans out.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions and guidence on places to check out.

Me and my buddy are heading back up to Panguitch Lake this comming Wednesday and hunting till Sunday.

We will be staying at the New Western again. Pretty nice hotel and the rooms have plenty of space for all your gear.

I hope the weather holds decent for us and we take at least one cow. If we get one we will take it to Nayes and then split the meat between us.

I hope to have a good report when we get back. Someday I am going to learn to post pictures on here.

I just returned from the hunt. I want to thank every one who helped out with the information. I was going to thank each individually, but my computer crashed, and got a lobotomy, so I lost all your e-mail addresses. By the way we found the elk!
