here is a pic therer was not as many as last year and the reason it took a while to get in is they were registering weapons while you were in line to try and make it a little quicker and a lot less crowded and the check in shack and it actully wasnt that bad while we were checking in and gentalman and his daughter was also checking in a pig that the daughter shot and they said they had seen a large group with that pig they were in a differant area the weather was great it was cold and had a mist in the air and the dfg people were very good as always and they were trianing a new girl they had three in the shack so it only took about 3 minute to check in i only wished i had grabed another tag but i couldnt find any of the 2004/2005 tags anywhere so all in all it was a great trip on the way out i stopped by the tracks and there was only 2 campers we had to cancle our stay due to work on sunday hope everyone else that went has good luck as well vern

One more CR success story!
Well the boys (12 & 13) and I got there about noon Saturday, and set camp. We had the BIG (12x20) tent out by the tracks, and drove the silver Tucson with the hitch rack, and sporting our JHO colors on the back.
We went out to area 3 to scout for the next morning, and then we were off to our pre-planned evening hunt, between the impact area and the river. We didn’t see anything coming down from the impact area, so we started heading back, when all of a sudden I spot a group of three, roaming about the brush 40 yards out. They hadn’t noticed us, so we tried to close some distance, but they started wandering off, and I was afraid the group would get out of range, and it was too late to chase them down, so I took a shot at the last one in sight, and MISSED!
<
Cr@p, well they were just running in circles, because they didn’t know what was going on, or where to run. Then the little black one turned broadside again, and I let another slug go. Right after, my older boy shot, and the pigs scattered. Turns out, even though we had 3 pigs in the group, we both were shooting at the same pig. My younger boy said he couldn’t get the safety off in time, but I think he was just a little nervous.
We found a little blood trail, and I asked my older boy (he was assigned to be master of the light) for the flashlight, but oops! He forgot it in the car. Well, after some searching, we found the pig, and got it dressed in the dark (as we watched the other pigs wander by 30 ft away). One slug went completely through the ribcage, and so my older boy and I agreed that it could have been either of us that made the hit, but I tagged it so he could continue hunting the full weekend. We were about 30 minutes late to the check-out, but F&G was just happy that we were able to find the pig in the dark.
We didn’t get a shot at anything else that weekend, but we got close, and even got to chase some football-sized piglets around (making our best imitation of a piglet calling, daddy-daddy!) We all had a great time, and all the people we saw were very friendly. The boys are hooked for sure, and can’t wait to go back.

Hunt hard, we saw the picture of that MONSTER! Great pig! You have got to post a pic, because that thing looked all furry and multi-colored black-rust-white-brown, kinda like the love child of a rhino and a calico kitty!

All I Camp Roberts comes through again!

Way to go to all of you! Definitely sounds like maybe the weather, or all the closures, or something is working to create some good hunts on the military bases this year. Hope this is a good indicator for our Tejon JHO Ham Slam this coming weekend! I'm sharpening my skinning knives now!
