CROWLEY LAKE 2002 OPENING DAY STATISTICS

Saturday 4/27/02

DFG's Curtis Milliron

416 anglers were interviewed, representing 1,738 hours of angling effort.
All anglers were interviewed at South Landing and were fishing from boats.

1.18 trout/hour  (rainbow, brown and cutthroat - KEPT and RELEASED)
1.03 trout /hour (all species - KEPT only)
These estimates exceed out target of 1.0 trout/hour.

11.3% of the rainbow trout were greater than 15 inches.
This stat was historically around 3% before the Eagle Lake trout were added to the allotment.

1.8% of the catch were brown trout.
These are all wild fish.

0.7% of the catch were cutthroat trout.
This is the most significant catch of CT-L on any opening day, and reflects
the change from a fingerling to a subcatchable stocking program.  There was strong interest in the CT-L program by anglers and the media.

4.92 is the average number of trout caught (KEPT and RELEASED)/angler.
4.32 is the average number of trout KEPT/angler.

Average size of rainbow trout is 13.3 inches fork length, or about 14 inches total length
and 1.12 pounds.  n = 223

Maximum size rainbow trout we measured was 25.5 inches and 5.4 pounds.

Due to uncertain weather conditions, the DFG airplane was unavailable for angler use surveys (pressure counts).  Therefore, we are unable to produce a harvest estimate for the 2002 opener.
